Sterling silver eight prong deep pendant containing one emerald cut Brazilian rutilated quartz with an approximate weight of 19.5 carats. The clear quartz, which is well cut and polished, is heavily marked with bright golden needles of rutile (titanium dioxide). One needle actually pierces the surface of the table facet and several tiny needles appear in the adjacent crown facets and can be felt with the finger. This comes from cutting across or into a rutile needle, which is a byproduct of iron and is harder than the quartz. This roughness of surface is fairly typical of needle carrying gemstones and is not to be viewed as a flaw. The pendant measures 1-1/8" long x 5/8" wide. Sold without chain; gift boxed.
