Gorgeous Art Nouveau brooch in frosted lilac glass - - - depicts Venus, the Goddess of Love, with a dove on her shoulder (the dove is a symbol of Venus, which accounts for the tradition of releasing doves at marriage ceremonies) - - - the piece is surrounded with sterling silver grape leaves and clusters (Venus, I believe, was at one time married to Bacchus) - - - measures 2-1/4" x 1-1/4" wide, and is rather heavy, weighing 1.5 ounces - - - would best be worn in the lapel of a coat or jacket in a heavier fabric such as wool - - - beautiful and very unusual design, very typical of the Art Nouveau Period.
