Price: $1,125.00
Shipping Weight: 2.00 pounds

Beautiful and unusual one-of-a-kind custom made 14 karat yellow gold pendant containing a bezel-set Russian charoite cabochon and a round brilliant cut diamond. The charoite is a rich lavender into violet and purple, splashed with black and lustrous charcoal grey. The charoite, which weighs 38.07 carats, is well cut with a high polish, and is slightly chatoyant in luster. The diamond is set in a 14 karat white gold tube bezel on the outer rim of the pendant. The hand-made pendant bail is large and sturdy, and will take a large chain or a domed omega chain. The diamond is well cut and polished, and weighs .12 carat. Graded by G.I.A. standards, diamond clarity is VS2, and diamond color is H. Pendant measures 1-15/16" long x 7/8" wide. Sold without chain; gift boxed.

Charoite is known for its distinctive coloring from lavender through violet and purple. It often contains inclusions of tinaksite, which appear as golden shapes throughout the material. Although it is somewhat disputed, charoite is said to have been discovered in the 1940s and named for the Chara River. This elite mineral is found only in the Sakha Republic, Siberia, Russia, in native limestone deposits. Not known to the outside world until 1978, charoite is generally used as an ornamental stone, carved into vases and figurines, and cut into cabochons. There is a fairly strict prohibition on charoite exportation from Russia, and it is exceedingly difficult to obtain gem rough. Luckily, we have a good supply of this fine material for production into fine jewelry pieces.
